Toronto: An incubator of hair research<\/h2>\n
Toronto has been home to many great hair restoration surgeons, most notably Dr. David J. Seager and Dr. Walte Dr Seager was born in 1945 in London, England. He trained at King\u2019s College Hospital at London University. In 1970, Dr. Seager established himself in Markham Ontario where he practised family medicine. Much later in 1989, Dr Seager visited Dr. Pierre Bedard in Montr\u00e9al, Qu\u00e9bec, where he studied current hair transplant techniques for three months. The treatment of hair loss was close to Dr. Seager as he had lost the majority of his hair by the age of 18 and had sought treatment from many surgeons but was consistently informed that he was not a good candidate. This personal experience drove him to innovate and treat people with advanced hair loss like himself.<\/p>\n In 1992, Dr. Seager, armed with his new training, founded the Seager Hair Transplant Centre. At his new facility, he developed the \u201cstick and place\u201d technique where incisions for implanting grafts are made immediately before implantation of the graft. The \u201cstick and place\u201d technique ensured that the incisions could be made exactly the size required as they would shrink with time if there was not available graft. Traditional techniques of the time called for the creation of all recipient sites at one time, requiring that the sites be made larger to accommodate the later shrinkage.<\/p>\n Dr. Seager pioneered the so-called mega sessions by successfully placing 3000 grafts in a single session. In this way he could achieve excellent coverage and density. Eventually, Dr. Seager and his staff could routinely perform such surgeries well before it had become an industry standard. This work led to Dr. Seager being awarded a Golden Follicle Award from the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS).<\/p>\n Dr. Unger is another Golden Follicle Award recipient that has roots in Toronto. His medical training and residency took place in Toronto. Dr. Unger\u2019s contribution comes in the form of teaching and standardizing hair restoration information. The American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS) recognizes the Hair Transplantation text edited by Unger as the primary text from which they create their board exam. Dr. Unger continues to make great contributions to the field of hair restoration surgery.<\/p>\n Toronto has a robust and world-leading health care system. In fact, Toronto has over 30 hospitals!<\/p>\n East York<\/strong> Toronto may seem big with a metro population of almost 6 million people but the transportation is incredibly easy!<\/p>\n The subway, streetcar and bus system of Toronto goes back to 1921! The subway system runs east to west with stations strategically throughout downtown. There is even a station right at the CN Tower and Rogers Centre! The streetcar system compliments the subway system fantastically that allows for easy travel north and south. The fares are $3.25\/ride, $13.00\/day, and $64.95\/week so you can leave the car at home! Also for those coming out of town the TTC there is an Express bus that runs right from the Pearson International Airport to the subway. The subway runs as far east as Scarborough.<\/p>\n For those flying into Pearson International Airport, there is a train that runs every 15 minutes, directly from the airport straight to Union Station (heart of downtown) or Bloor. The current rate $12.35\/rider with discounts for return tickets families. The cost of this service is greater but it requires much less navigation and does not make any stops!<\/p>\n Taxis and Limos are available at the designated pick up area on the terminal curbs on the arrival levels. Fares from the airport into Toronto are based on flat rates that are pre-negotiated when you are picked up.<\/p>\n Car rental are available at Pearson International Airport and throughout the metro Toronto area.<\/p>\n The Go Train Service of southern Ontario offers commuters access from as far north as Allandale, east as Oshawa, south as Hamilton, and west as Kitchener.<\/p>\n Toronto is lucky to have a bicycle sharing system. Stations dispensing bikes are found throughout the downtown area of Toronto. Bikes are $7\/day or $15\/3-day. They are great for touring around and taking in the sights.<\/p>\n Toronto is home to a wide range of economic to luxury accommodations.
