Shedding too much hair? Not a good thing – but expect to lose 50 to 100 hairs per day. About 90 percent of your hair is growing at any one time. Ten percent of the hair is in a resting phase that lasts two to three months and then sheds itself. When a hair is shed, a new hair from the same follicle replaces it. Scalp hair grows about one-half inch per month.

The most common reasons for hair loss can vary from the effects of genetics and aging to stress and diseases. Hair loss typically happens with aging. But hair loss can also happen for many other reasons such as, major surgery, an acute bout of stress, or childbirth. It can also be due to underlying diseases, such as lupus, hormone problems or the use of certain medications.

Female pattern baldness usually consists of thinning hair on top of the scalp. Around 40 per cent of women show sign of hair loss by age 50. Genetics seems to be involved but it is unclear what role hormones, such as low estrogen levels at menopause, may play. Women with hair loss tend to have normal levels of androgens such as testosterone.

To keep hair in the best condition, you need to treat it gently and keep it conditioned. As we age our hair becomes much more delicate then it once was. To “baby” the hair we have it is important to keep a hair regiment. All of our Sure Hair clients are on a weekly or monthly Scalp Treatment and Laser Light Therapy Program. This provides your hair a clean healthy environment to grow in and for the “resting” hairs to get a major boost. This boost will strengthen and help to preserve the hair you have and even fast forward the growth of new hairs.
